CARBON EMISSIONS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY
'Click, purchase, emit’, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions, with orders generated online producing the same carbon footprint as those bought in shop. With online orders increasing in a new ‘covid-19’ society we have set to combat the negative environmental consequences of online shopping by offsetting the carbon emitted when shipping activewear.
Each order we send travels an average of 650km, which equates to 0.5kg of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere, which although this may not sound impressive, it’s the equivalent of charging your smart phone 50 times!
HOW DISTANCEWEAR ARE CHANGING TO HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT
Here at Distance, we strive to mitigate our environmental footprint, and in order to achieve carbon neutral shipping, we've partnered with ‘Pachama’. Within this partnership, we work closely with rainforest alliance schemes in the Amazon, contributing to reforestation and restoration schemes to capture carbon in the rainforest.
We hope more brands in the industry will start to follow through with similar climate change focused schemes, especially as online shopping is set to become more influential in the wake of Covid-19. Hopefully as more brands develop similar schemes in the future, clicking that ‘purchase’ button will have less environmental impacts, leaving the online e-commerce industry to grow in a more sustainable way.
